When I first decided to study Reflexology L5, it actually come to me. I was looking for something to help with physical touch relaxation during my reiki sessions and then I enquired about Indian head and was told about reflexology. In that moment I realised that reflexology would give me what I wanted, which was to understand the body beyond the surface. My goal has always been to delve deeper into understanding the body as a whole, what I discovered was a fascinating blend of science, spirituality, and healing that deepened my appreciation for the human body and its hidden connections.
Understanding Reflexology and the Body’s Systems
Reflexology is a practice that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, face or ears. We call it the 'map', these points correspond to different organs and systems in the body. By stimulating these areas, reflexologists aim to promote balance and support the body's natural healing processes, with goal to bring the body back to homeostasis.
During my studies, I learned how the body’s systems (such as the digestive, respiratory, and nervous systems) interact closely. Reflexology offers a unique way to influence these systems indirectly by working on reflex points. For example, pressing on a spot linked to the liver can help improve its function, which in turn supports overall health.
Becoming a reflexologist highlighted how stress or imbalance in one area can affect other systems, sometimes in surprising ways.
I was taught to really delve into the body as a whole to really take in to consideration everything: how to look at lifestyle, medication (and how this could be effecting the body & organs), as well as conditions that counter effect other areas of the body/ organs/ wellbeing.
How Emotions Are Stored in the Body
One of the most eye opening parts of my journey was discovering the metaphysical connections: how certain emotions can be stored in specific areas of the body. I knew this when feeling it during reiki sessions but didn't know the connection to the specific organ and possible emotion that has been stored there. This idea is supported by both traditional healing practices and modern research into mind-body connections.
For example:
Hips often hold anger and resentment. Many people experience tightness or discomfort in their hips when they are emotionally burdened.
Knees can be linked to feelings of stubbornness or difficulty moving forward in life. Knee pain sometimes reflects a sense of being stuck or unsure about the next step.
These connections made me more aware of how emotional health influences physical well-being. When working with clients, I noticed that releasing tension in these areas often helped them feel lighter emotionally.
Reflexology’s Role in Supporting Health Conditions
While reflexology is not a cure for dis eases, it can be a helpful complementary therapy. I found it particularly useful for conditions like arthritis, anxiety, sleep difficulties, digestion support and much more.
Arthritis: Reflexology can reduce pain and improve joint mobility by increasing circulation and relaxing muscles around affected areas. I had many case studies where it helped ease the pain and sleep improved.
Sleep issues: Stimulating reflex points related to the nervous system and endocrine glands can promote relaxation and better sleep patterns. nearly 90% of all my clients have improved sleep after reflexology.
In my experience, clients often report feeling calmer and more balanced after reflexology sessions, which supports overall health and well-being.
How Reflexology Evolved My View of Healing
This journey taught me to listen more closely to my body and to respect the subtle ways it communicates. The course I took emphasized taking every aspect into consideration to heal the body as a whole and search to the root cause. It expanding my knowledge on the life force/ chi/ energy flow within the body, which is important to me as this is how I see life.
I love sharing these treatments with others, helping them find balance and relief through gentle, natural methods.
If you are interested in a reflexology treatment, I encourage you, they are super relaxing and gently work your body as a whole <3
